School Year French Program:
September - May

Ages 3-5:
- greetings and conversational basics with puppets
- story-based vocabulary, songs, props, finger-plays and games
- hand gestures and sign language

Ages 6-10:
- introduction to reading & writing in French reinforced with weekly
- homework activity sheets
- age-appropriate phrases, skits, songs and games
- fairy-tale musical theater (one French play per term)

Ages 10 - 12:
- conversational French around books, themes, and spontaneous dialogue
- recitation of poems and other readings at a local library
- written correspondence with French pen-pals
- These children will also have opportunities to learn francais quotidien as students enjoy shopping excursions en ville with their teachers.

*A goûter (snack) will be served at every class

Class Descriptions:

BLEU I - Our one-year program for brand new beginners ushering children ages 3-4 into the world of foundational French through a weekly 45 minute class of a gentle and playful introduction incorporating song, creative movement, finger-play, simple games, stories and snack. - Find Classes

BLEU II - Our one-year program for children ages older 3-4 with either a summer French camp or one year prior French experience (or equivalent knowledge of language). This 60 minute class expands upon their existent French language base as the children begin to tell short stories, learn verbs through body gestures, expand one word answers into short phrases, express emotions, and learn basic elements of French conversation. - Find Classes

BLANC I - Our one-year offering for brand new beginners ages 4-6 incorporating foundational French with song, creative movement, finger-play, games, body gestures and stories, making the learning process fun and stimulating. - Find Classes

BLANC II - Our one year program for children ages 4-6 that have had either French Camp or one year prior French. This is a 60-minute class that will expand their existent French with the introduction of theme-related vocabulary, spelling, conversation basics, body gestures, stories, games and creative movement. - Find Classes

PRE-ROUGE I - nouveau! A brand new level added to accomodate children ages 6-9 that are French beginners. This will combine the Blanc I with all foundational French but be adjusted to their maturity and age level introducing some of the Rouge I content. - Find Classes


ROUGE I - Our Intermediate Junior class is a one-year program intended for Kindergarden through Second Graders. These children need to have had at least one year prior French and be able to read and write. In this class, "les élèves" will begin to learn to read French words, act out stories in a short play in the Fall and a larger scale musical theatre production in the Spring. They will begin to move along at a faster pace in their grasping French. At this level we highly recommend the children to be enrolled in two Franc-O-Fun classes per week. - Find Classes

ROUGE II - Our Intermediate Senior class is a two-year program designed for Second - Fourth Graders that have had either Rouge I or have been recommended for this level. In Rouge II, these students will work on grammar exercises, writing and reading skills as well as work toward two musical theatre productions - one in December and one in May all in French with costumes and on stage! - Find Classes

VIOLET - Our most accelerated three-year program, intended for children in Fourth to Sixth Grades, is an advanced continuation of Rouge II or upon recommendation of the teacher. These "élèves avancés" are taking a minimum of two Franc-O-Fun classes per week plus participating in either semi-private tutoring classes, going on our trips to France or attending FOF field trips to further their exposure and opportunities to practice their French. - Find Classes

**NOUVEAU**

FRANC--O-NÖEL ~ a weekly gathering of Franc-O-Fun students to learn and practice a French Christmas skit, carols, poems and dialogue to culminate in a Chantez Nöel show that will be offered to the community (a nursing home, a library event for children, a French restaurant…) and give the children an opportunity to give this French musical theatre gift and use their French in public.   Participants must already be enrolled in another weekly Franc-O-Fun class.   A minimum of 8 children is necessary in each age group (4-6’s & 7-11’s)

ALLEZ EN VILLE! - Le Français quotidien for Rouge II/Violet level students – ages 8 - 11. Students will get to use their French first-hand with 5 field trips during their 14 week session.   They will come to French class learning target vocabulary and phrases for each field trip and then on specified dates, venture out and meet with their teacher at a pre-designated place:   le supermarché, une boutique de fleurs, la poste, la bibliothèque, un café, un magasin d’animaux or une fromagerie…where they will converse in French,   pretend to be customers and do written exercises.    Students will be learn how to keep a journal (en français) and write a short story about their experiences en ville!     Class size will be limited to 6 students.
